Everyone was gathered near the farm and happily working, so we were asked to join them for a bit. This is the mother of the farm owner and the neighbors who were participating in the work. Cotton can be harvested roughly four months after planting, and here they harvest it once a year and grow rice during the rainy season. They also grow a variety of other crops such as potatoes, coconuts, guava, and curry leaves. Cotton is not grown on a large scale by large corporations, but by small family farmers who grow it in accordance with their climate and lifestyle. The organic cotton clothes that we wear casually at sisam are also the breath of someone's life. I feel that I am becoming more and more attached to them. [Denim to Grow] 100% organic cotton is used. We are making a choice to protect not only the comfort of our skin, but also the global environment and the lives of the creators of our products. ワーク感あふれるデニムジャケットは、さっと羽織りたくなる気軽さのある一枚。
今季から、デニムもオーガニックコットン生地でお作りしています。
着こむほどになじんで味わいが出てくるので、育てる楽しみも。
2サイズ展開なので、性別問わずお楽しみください。
「変化を楽しむデザイン」
シンプルなデザインなので、秋から春先まで、レイヤードや小物使いで変化を楽しんで。
オーバーサイズのアイテムと合わせて、肩の力を抜いた着こなしがおすすめです。
前はジッパーなので、開け閉めしやすいのも嬉しいポイント。
比翼仕立てでジッパーが隠れるので、閉めてすっきりと着ていただくのもおすすめです。
デニム生地は、やはり生地の経年変化を楽しみたいところ。
カフスやアームホールはダブルステッチになっているので、着こむ程にあたりが出て生地が育っていきます。
「細部にもこだわりを」
裏地には濃色のオーガニックコットンフランネル生地を使用し、あたたかさも確保しつつ、心地よく。
フランネル生地の滑らかな面を表にして裏地をつけているので、重ね着もスムーズです。
「自然と暮らしに寄り添うコットン栽培」
こちらは、昨年デザイナーが訪れたオーガニックコットン農家の様子。
畑の近くでみんなで集まって楽しそうに作業をされていたので、そこに少し混ぜてもらいました。
農家のオーナーのお母さんと、作業に参加している近所の人たちです。
コットンは植えてからだいたい4カ月で収穫できるそうで、ここでは年に1回収穫して、雨季は米を育てています。
他にもお芋やココナッツ、グアバ、カレーリーフなど、さまざまな作物を育てているそうです。
大きな企業が大規模に栽培するコットンではなく、家族単位の小さな農家の人々が風土や暮らしに合わせて栽培をしているコットン。
普段なにげなく着ているsisamのオーガニックコットン服も、そんな誰かの暮らしの呼吸が宿っているのですね。
ますます愛着が深まるような気がします。
