In Nepal, brass tableware is used for entertaining guests and in high-end restaurants, not stainless steel. This small dish is about 11 cm in diameter and has the size of a small bowl. We found it at a restaurant in Nagarkot, a scenic spot*, and fell in love at first sight. It is the perfect size for serving tarkari (spiced vegetable side dish), and is a wonderful small dish that will instantly raise the grade of your dining table. When combined with the taller Nepalese katli, it gives the dish a three-dimensional appearance and makes it even more gorgeous. *For authentic dal bhat Dal bhat is the national dish of Nepal. Dal baht is a compound of the words dal = beans (or bean soup) and baht = rice. The literal translation is "beans and rice. As you can see from the word, the basic idea of dal baht is to have bean soup and rice as the main ingredients with a number of side dishes. ネパール本国から直接取り寄せたブラス（真鍮）製の食器です。同じ食文化圏に属しているようで微妙に異なるインドとネパール。ネパールで来客をもてなしたり高級レストランで用いられるのはステンレスではなくずっしりしたブラスの食器です。決してお値段は安くはありませんが、使い込む程に鈍い色合いを増し、渋みと味わいが深くなっていく食器です。
こちらの小皿は直径11cmほどの小鉢といったサイズ感。私たちは景勝地・ナガルコットのレストランで見つけて一目惚れして買い付けてきました。タルカリ（野菜のスパイスおかず）を盛り付けるのにぴったりのサイズ感で、食卓のグレードが一気に上がる素敵な小皿です。背の高いネパールカトリと組み合わせると、盛り付けが立体的になりなお豪華になります。
■本格ダルバートに
滋味深いネパールの国民食、「ダルバート」。ダルバートはダル＝豆（または豆のスープ）、バート＝ご飯、の合成語です。直訳すると「豆とご飯」ですね。この言葉からわかるように、豆のスープとご飯を主役に数々の副菜を添えたのがダルバートの基本です。それらを少しずつ混ぜながら味わいの変化を楽しむ素晴らしい食文化です。ご家庭で本格ダルバートを味わう際の食器としてぜひお楽しみください。
