This is a traditional Kashmiri paper mache ornament made of small pieces of paper torn and glued together into a mold and beautifully decorated by artisans.

The history of paper mache dates back to around the 15th century. It was introduced when a Kashmiri prince who was imprisoned in Samarkand returned to Kashmir.
