国鉄C57形蒸気機関車は細身で優美なボイラーから「貴婦人」の愛称で親しまれた蒸気機関車です。
1号機はC57形蒸気機関車のトップナンバー機で、1937（昭和12）年に製造されて以来、事故や故障など度重なる困難を乗り越えながら、一度も車籍を抹消されることなく活躍しています。
近年は「SLやまぐち号」などの牽引機として活躍する本車両を1972（昭和47）年、新潟県全国植樹祭の開催に伴い運行されたお召し列車仕様で製品化いたしました。
最小走行半径はR145となります。
