Description
| A book that shows one of the roots of Chinese clothing and women's fashion in the Tang Dynasty . From the 7th to the early 10th century, the Tang Dynasty flourished as a world empire that influenced not only China but also the surrounding regions. The Tang Dynasty was linked to Sasanian Persia, the Byzantine Empire, and the Islamic world from the west. Sogdian merchants were active, envoys and students from Korea and Japan visited, and the capital, Chang'an, developed as a cosmopolitan city. Northern and Southern dynasties fused together, and various cultures with an international flavor flourished. Tang poetry, in particular, produced many outstanding poets such as Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bai Juyi. Women's fashion was also a part of Tang culture, and poets such as Bai Juyi wrote various poems about it. The Chinese word "yosoku," meaning fashion, comes from the Tang dynasty novel "Yu Xian Gulou. This book recreates the glamorous clothing fashions of the Tang Dynasty based on Tang dynasty artifacts found during excavations, and comparing them with descriptions in historical documents and excavated antiquarian books and artifacts. Women's fashion trends during the Tang dynasty were a strong reflection of the state of the world, and changed in the same way as the social and cultural atmosphere of the time. This book covers the period from the Sui Dynasty at the end of the 6th century to the period of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms in the mid-10th century. The Tang Dynasty is divided into five periods: the Early Tang, the period from King Gaozu to King Gaozong; the period of Empress Noriten Wu; the Sheng Tang, from the period of King Xuanzong to the An Shi Rebellion; the Middle Tang, from King Wenzong to Emperor Wenzong; and the Late Tang, from King Wuzong to the last Emperor Ai. The first chapter, "Kira," describes costumes, the second chapter, "Rimenye," describes accessories, the third chapter, "Hair and Makeup," describes hair and makeup, and the fourth chapter, "Powder Coatings," describes cosmetics. The book also includes many artifacts from the Japanese Shosoin Repository, showing the influence of the Nara period on clothing. Each chapter features a woman who lived during the Tang dynasty, such as the Hongpai Geisha* Shangguan Eunzi* Yang Guifei* Xiangyin Musume* Duke of Tongchang, and is accompanied by beautiful illustrations based on their episodes. This book will be widely enjoyed by those who like Chinese history, historical dramas, animations, and novels, as well as those who like modern Chinese clothes, history, and illustrations.
