Description
| Surrealism is an artistic movement that attempts to express the world of the human unconscious. Also called surrealism, it began in 1924 when André Breton, a central figure in the predecessor art movement Dada, was greatly influenced by the psychoanalysis of the psychiatrist Freud, and issued the Surrealist Manifesto. In addition to the destruction of order that had been Dada's theme, this activity created a new form of expression that approached the depths of the psyche, a worldview that was an extension of reality. The mainstay of this work was a definition that was described as "a true transcription of thought that excludes all censorship by reason and is conducted free of all aesthetic and moral preconceptions. In the fall/winter of 2024, Litchmore will take [the 100th anniversary of the Surrealist Manifesto] as an opportunity to use as image sources the creations of five artists who have attempted to express the world of the unconscious by adopting groundbreaking methods of expression. |
