Description
| [Father's Day] This is a unique work by Kuniyoshi, a cat lover, in which anthropomorphized cats perform the acts of Kikukawa Kunimaru, an acrobat who had a reputation in Edo (present-day Tokyo). The performance depicts [Yaezakura] moving a ball (mari) over his body, and [Ranguguwatari] crossing a pile while kicking a ball with his cute paws. Because of its round shape, [mari] has long been associated with parents' wishes for their children to grow up in a round and healthy manner. There is also a custom to give a ball to a bride-to-be as a wedding present to pray for a happy life, such as a happy family* and a happy marriage, and also because it means "all things will come full circle.
