Description
Utamaro is known for his paintings of beautiful women characterized by delicate and graceful lines. While previously, his paintings of beautiful women depicted the entire body, Utamaro is said to have devised a composition that omits the body and focuses on the face. Kansei no Sanbijin is a representative example, depicting three beauties from the Kansei era (1789-1801): Toyohina Tomimoto, Okita Naniwaya, and Ohisa Takashimaya. The furoshiki has a pearlized finish to give the appearance of mica print. The shimmering effect when wrapped gives it an accent. |
