Description
| 22 keys mbira A traditional instrument of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. Unlike the kalimba, the mbira has a round metal part that resonates with the sound. When the keys are played, the resonance of the round metal adds to the sound, giving the instrument not only a gentle keyboard tone, but also a unique jittery sound. The sound is produced by playing the keys with the fingers of both hands. It is called a thumb piano because the player holds the mbira with both hands and plucks the steel keys with his or her thumbs. |
