Manufacturing] in Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, a town of craftsmen. Starting with the forging of Japanese nails 400 years ago, the production of hammered copperware, which originated from the development of Mase Copper Mine in the mid-Edo period, as well as the manufacture of portable writing tools, smoking pipes, and cutting tools, such as rasp files, flourished in the city. The Tsubame industry has met with several crises, including the decline of Japanese nails and the rise of Western tableware, but each time it has achieved reform, and the Tsubame industry as we know it today has emerged. [As a "town of craftsmen," Tsubame's craftsmen engage in friendly competition and are constantly manufacturing and developing new products. Tsubame's "craftsmanship" is based on craftsman to craftsman. It is as if the town of Tsubame is one big factory. |
