[The Story of Chikan Embroidery] Chikan embroidery, a traditional Indian culture, is completed through many processes. Locally, carved wooden stamps are used as drafts for the delicate embroidery. The stamps are designed by Indian stamp makers or adopt patterns that have been handed down locally. Stamps nearing completion. So the story of the handiwork begins even before the embroidery is started. Once the stamp is completed, the next step is the drafting process. The drafting process is also done by a specialist craftsman, and the stamps are drafted by the stamp maker. The drafted clothes are sent to the embroidery village, where the women carefully sew them stitch by stitch. The women's workplaces are their own residences. They work daily, watched over by their children and goats, in a place where their lives are closely connected with housework and child-rearing. Chikan embroidery is filled with many handiworks. インドの伝統文化である「チカン刺繍」は、多くの行程を経て完成します。
現地では、繊細な刺繍を施していくための下書きとして、木彫りのスタンプが使われています。
インドのスタンプ職人がデザインしたものや、現地で伝承されてきた模様を採用してスタンプが作られます。
完成に近づくスタンプ。
刺繍を始める前から、手仕事の物語が始まっているのですね。
スタンプが完成したら、次は下書きの行程へ。
下書きにも専門の職人さんがおり、スタンプ職人さんによって下書きが施されていきます。
下書きが施された服は刺繍村へ送られ、村の女性たちが一針一針、丁寧に縫い上げていきます。
彼女たちの仕事場は、それぞれの住居。
家事や子育てなど、生活が密接にある場所で、子どもたちやヤギに見守られながら日々仕事をしています。
多くの手仕事が詰まっているチカン刺繍。
