Description
| What is Senju Sumi? Kuretake is now known as a manufacturer of pens and calligraphy supplies, but it was founded in 1902 as an ink manufacturer and has been making solid ink ever since. Since its inception in 1975, Kuretake has been releasing a few new products every year. This is a reproduction of an octagonal mirror with flowers and birds on the back, which is one of the mirrors listed in the Shosoin Treasure Book of National Treasures. It is made of bronze and cast in the shape of a flower, which was popular in China*s Tang Dynasty. The back of the mirror depicts two parrots holding grape branches in their mouths and fluttering ribbons of layered jewels around their necks as if they were circling. The mirror was stolen and wrecked in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), but was restored to its present form in 1984, when it was held together with a silver claw. Includes one Senju test ink stick. Paulownia box size W190 x H40 x D190mm |
