2020年2月、ちょうどイタリア出張中でしたが、
連日日本のクルーズ船での
コロナウィルス騒ぎを報じていた
現地のテレビニュースが、
イタリア国内でコロナウィルス患者が
発見されたニュースに大騒ぎとなる瞬間に
居合わせました。
数日後に帰国しましたが、
その後のイタリアでのパンデミックは
日本を上回る規模となり、
とてもイタリア旅行どころではなかった状況が
3年近く続きました。
2022年秋に政府が海外との往来を
緩和する方針を打ち出し、
訪日客が来るようになりましたが、
この間に進んだ円安の影響もあって、
海外旅行再開の機運はなかなか高まりませんでした。
2023年以降海外からの訪日客が激増し、
東京や京都はもちろん、
日本各地で外国人と身近に接する機会が
増えたこともあるのか、
2024年に出国する日本人数は1,300万人となり、
過去最大だった2019年の65％まで
回復してきました。
この機会にこの間の変化を取り入れ
本書を大幅改定することになった次第です。
古い記録ですが2018年には
