Description
| The Egyptian Gods series in vivid Persian blue. Persian blue, a blue glaze, was considered the source of life in ancient Egypt. The gods inhabiting animal figures have been brought into our modern life. The blue glaze of the Koubei kiln is glazed four to five times, fired, gilded, and fired again. The pieces are carefully produced by the hands of skilled craftsmen. [About KOBEIGAMA Kobeigama was established in 1804 by Koubei Kato I. Soon after, the kiln became the official kiln for the delivery of tableware to Edo Castle. Since then, the kiln has continued to light fires for generations, producing numerous ceramics and porcelain pieces that are in tune with the times and that have created the times, and the kiln style has continued to the present day as one that values artistry. Successive heads of the kiln have constantly pursued new things, through trial and error, and continued to take on challenges in order to create beauty as ceramic artists. Their achievements are highly regarded not only in Japan but also abroad. The owner's creativity is the key to the success of his kilns. The owner's creativity is the philosophy of the kiln, and it is purely and intensely passed down from generation to generation. Under the supervision of the pottery owner, who is also a potter, the kiln produces ceramics full of individuality, reflecting the style of successive generations of potters. [Persian culture is passed down to the present day.] Takuo Kato VI (1917-2005), after years of research, restored the techniques of Persian ceramics and Shosoin three-color painting, and created a fusion of tradition and originality, including lusterware, three-color painting, Persian blue, and Persian overglaze painting, and for these achievements he was designated a Living National Treasure. These Persian ceramic techniques were passed down to Kohye Kato VII, who further developed his own unique and modern style. |
