「製作に励む女性たち」
インドの商業都市ムンバイの巨大なスラム街で長年活動しているフェアトレードNGO「クリエイティブ・ハンディクラフト」では、11の生産者グループが活動しており、女性たちは20人ずつの小グループに分かれて縫製作業を行っています。
一つのグループリーダーを任されているシャブナムさんのお話。
10代で結婚・出産を経験したシャブナムさんは、かつて子育てをしながら家事手伝いの仕事をしていた時、一か月働いて、得ることができるのは200ルピー(400円ほど)でした。
クリエイティブ・ハンディクラフトの仕事と出会い、今では月に1万ルピーほどの収入を得られるようになったそうです。
「私は、教育を受けることができませんでした。
だからこそ、子どもたちには、学校に行かせてあげたいという強い夢があったんです。
この仕事のおかげで、奨学金制度も使いながら、無事に息子2人を学校へ送りだすことができました。」
シャブナムさんのような頼もしいリーダーのもと、たくさんの作り手が意見を出し合いながら、一枚一枚、服を作っています。
