| This is a puzzle-type advent calendar. Open one box per day and assemble 40 or 80 pieces to complete a large puzzle. This beautifully illustrated German-made Christmas advent calendar allows you to open one small box of puzzles each day, starting in December, to gradually build the puzzle and count the days until Christmas. What is a Christmas advent calendar*? Advent is the period of waiting for the birth of Jesus Christ. [It comes from the Latin word Adventus, meaning "coming," and in Japanese it is also called "Advent Festival. The calendar used to count down the days until the long-awaited birthday of Jesus Christ (=Christmas) is called an "advent calendar," and the card-shaped calendar is also called an "advent card. In Scandinavian countries, it is called "Yule*Calendar", which is a remnant from ancient times. The counting of the Advent period differs according to Christian denominations, but it generally begins on the Sunday four weeks prior to the Sunday closest to December 25.
