This beautifully illustrated German-made Christmas advent calendar allows you to count the days until Christmas by turning the calendar from December, one page at a time. It can be hung on the wall with the hanging hole or placed on a stand. What is a Christmas Advent Calendar*? Advent is the period of waiting for the birth of Jesus Christ. [It comes from the Latin word Adventus, meaning "coming," and is also called "advent" in Japanese. The calendar used to count down the days until the long-awaited birthday of Jesus Christ (=Christmas) is called an "advent calendar," and the card-shaped calendar is also called an "advent card. In Scandinavian countries, it is called "Yule*Calendar", which is a remnant from ancient times. The counting of the Advent period differs according to Christian denominations, but it generally begins on the Sunday four weeks prior to the Sunday closest to December 25.
