Description
| This is a 70 cm furoshiki (wrapping cloth). The cherry blossoms that herald the arrival of spring represent the beginning of things, but at the same time, this design expresses the unique Japanese sense of value that sees beauty in things that quickly fall away. The design is based on the "Gosho Kai," which is called "Rumu-mono" (meaning "the absence of people") because it is based on tools and vessels, and was so prestigious that it required a high level of education to decipher its meaning. In a wooden Gassho-zukuri factory that has been in Kyoto for 110 years, craftsmen continue to dye each furoshiki carefully, one by one, using the traditional technique of hand-dyeing. |
