Jade is produced only in the watersheds of the Kotaki River and the Hime River, which flow through Itoigawa City, and is generally a no-go area. 糸魚川の翡翠は約5億2000万年前にできたもので、「世界最古の翡翠」といわれています。
約5,500年前の縄文時代から、勾玉や装飾品の原材料として加工されており、世界最古のヒスイ文化の発祥地です。
糸魚川市を流れる「小滝川」と「姫川」の流域でのみ産出され、一般的には立ち入り禁止区域であり、採掘も禁止されています。
そのため市場に出回ることが非常に少ない為、偽物が多く出回っており、本物と見分ける方法が難しくなっています。
しかしながら、当店で取り扱っている翡翠は、石元・小滝物産店から正規に仕入れた本物の糸魚川翡翠です。
