Serpentine is not the name of a single mineral, but a generic name for a group of three minerals: antigorite, chrysotile, and lizardite. The three minerals are so similar that it is difficult to distinguish them with the naked eye, and they are sometimes mined individually and sometimes mixed together. The name "serpentine" is derived from the Latin word "serpentinus," meaning snake, and is said to have been given to the serpentine because of its serpentine-like pattern. The Japanese name for serpentine is serpentinite (serpentine rock). The combination of serpentine, which is said to support you in taking a new action, environment, or next step, and dragon, which is said to increase your luck, is highly recommended as a talisman or decorative stone! サーペンティンの原石を、細部まで拘って丁寧に彫り込んだ、極上彫刻品です
サーペンティンは鉱物単体の名称ではなく、「アンチゴライト」「クリソタイル」「リザーダイト」の三種からなる鉱物グループの総称です。
これら3種は酷似しているため肉眼で見分けることは困難で、それぞれ単体で採掘されることもあれば混じり合った状態で産出することもあります。
サーペンティンという名称はラテン語で蛇を表す“serpentinus”を語源としており、サーペンティンのもつ蛇のような模様から付けられたとされています。
和名では蛇紋石（蛇紋岩）と言います。
