大昔より、アメリカ合衆国の先住民族が浄化(スマッシング)を行う際に受け皿として使用されていたと云われています。
またアバロンシェルは採取された時には白い貝殻ですが、時間をかけて磨きをかけることで虹色に輝いてみえることがから、精霊が宿っているとされ、海のオパール等とも呼ばれています。
