*Nepalese traditional musical instruments

In Nepal, there is a set of five traditional musical instruments called [Panche baja]. The dholak (drum), jali (cymbal), nashenga (large curved wind instrument), and the shanai is one of the instruments in this set.

These instruments are indispensable for sacred ceremonies, especially weddings, and can be said to be part of the spiritual landscape of the Nepalese people.

The shanai is a reed instrument similar to the Indian shahnai. It has a nostalgic and melancholy tone. The ornamentation, including the aperture, is very beautiful (although it is distorted because it is made of soft metal*) and very attractive as an interior decoration. We highly recommend this piece to anyone looking for an unusual instrument.
