| *Symbol of fear of Shiva, god of destruction Bhairava means [terrible] in Sanskrit. Shiva is said to be a god with two aspects: creation and destruction, and Bhairava is the aspect of destruction. His wide-mouthed, frightening face is characteristic of this deity. In Nepalese and Tibetan homes, it is displayed at the entrance or near the Buddhist altar to ward off evil. *Hand-carved patterns by artisans This statue is specially hand-carved by Nepalese craftsmen, one piece at a time. It is a very time-consuming task to draw patterns on a statue with many curves, but even the smallest lines are carefully drawn. The carved pattern can be one of the following auspicious patterns, which represent auspicious things in Tibet: treasure umbrella, goldfish, treasure vase, lotus, white conch, auspicious knot, victory banner, and wheel of law. *The pattern may not be the same as in the photo. ■破壊神シヴァの恐怖の象徴
バイラヴァとはサンスクリット語で「恐ろしい」という意味です。シヴァは創造と破壊2つの側面を持つ神とされ、その破壊を示す形相をバイラヴァといいます。大きく口を開き、恐ろしい顔つきにが特徴的です。ネパールやチベット人の家では、玄関や仏壇近くに飾って厄除けとして使用されています。
■職人による手彫り模様
こちらの像はネパールの職人が一点づつ丁寧に手彫りした特別仕様。曲線の多い像に模様を描いていくのは本当に大変手間のかかる作業ですが、細かい線の一本一本まで丁寧に描かれています。
彫られている柄は、チベットの縁起が良いものを表した吉祥文様である宝傘、金魚、宝瓶、蓮、白法螺貝、吉祥結、勝幢、法輪のどれかになります。
