| *Indian all-purpose cloth This all-purpose cloth, called gamcha, is a cloth full of life in India and is similar to a tenugui in Japan. The simple, roughly woven, brightly checkered pattern is lovely and can be used for a variety of purposes. Locally, it is used for altars, wrapped around the head, or used as a hand towel. Match the color and size to anything*. Because they are roughly woven, they dry quickly, and the more you use them and the more you wash them, the softer the fabric will become. It can be used to wipe dishes, spread out like a blindfold cloth or luncheon mat*, and in larger sizes it can be used as a cooler windshield or to protect against sunburn. インドの生活感あふれる布、ガムチャと呼ばれる万能布で日本で言う手ぬぐいのような布です。シンプルでざっくりと編まれた鮮やかなチェック柄が可愛く、様々な用途にお使いいただけます。
現地では、祭壇に使用したり、頭に巻いたり、手拭きにしたり。色やサイズに合わせて何にでも◎
ざっくりと編まれているから速乾性にも優れており、使えば使うほど、洗えば洗うほど生地が馴染んで柔らかくなってきます。お皿を拭いたり、目隠し布やランチョンマットのように広げて使用しても◎また、大きめサイズならクーラーの風よけや日焼け防止にも使用できます。
縫製はとてもラフで、生地にもほつれがあったり、うまく縫えていなかったり・・・本当にインドの一般庶民が使っているそのまんま。細かいことを気にせず使っていただける方向きです。
