| Ohitsu, a rice container made of Odate bent-wood, allows you to enjoy tasty rice. The ohitsu is made by taking advantage of the excellent characteristics of Akita cedar, which absorbs excess moisture when there is excess moisture, and humidifies the rice when there is little moisture. Each grain of rice stands up and remains shiny, so you can enjoy tasty rice even after a long time. Akita cedar, one of the three most beautiful forests in Japan, has a beautiful, uniform grain and has antibacterial* deodorizing properties that inhibit damage to the rice and the formation of mold and remove odors. Odate's bentwood was designated a national traditional craft in 1980, and almost all production is done by hand in the traditional way. You can feel the precision of the craftsmen's handiwork in the beautifully finished bent wappa down to the smallest detail. |

When used for the first time, the wood is dry and rice tends to stick to it, so wet the inside with water and wipe it with a dish towel before filling it with rice.
[How to wash] 1) Soak the pot in hot water. 2) Scrub the rice with a sponge and rinse after the suds are removed. 3) Pour boiling water into the bowl and let sit for 2 to 3 minutes to warm the bowl. 4) Immediately wipe the bowl with a cloth and place it and the lid face up to release steam. (Drain off the hot water). 5) Do not let the vessel lie face down. |
