| *Talcho with wind reading scripture. In Tibet, Nepal, North Indian regions, etc., there is a five-colored flag called a tartcho that stands out among the distinctive landscape. These flags have sutras written on them, and each time the flags are displayed and flutter in the wind, it means that a sutra has been recited. The order of the five colors is blue*white*red*green*yellow, each representing the five elements of heaven*wind*fire*water*earth. These flags, which to our eyes look colorful and beautifully decorated, must have a good reason, and they must represent the prayers of the Himalayan people, who live their entire lives according to their religion. These tulchos are made in Nepal of nylon, and each one is printed with a pattern of a horse and a sutra. The one with this wind horse on it is especially called a lunta. ■風が読経するタルチョ
チベットやネパール、北インド地方等で、その特徴的な風景の中でも一際目を引く、タルチョーと呼ばれる5色の旗があります。
このタルチョーには経文が書かれており、この旗を飾り、それが風になびく度に、読経したことになるのだそうです。
また、五色の順番は青・白・赤・緑・黄の順に決まっており、それぞれが天・風・火・水・地の五大を表現しています。
私たちの目から見ると、カラフルで綺麗な飾り付けに見えるこの旗達にも、やはりきちんとした理由があり、生活の全てを宗教とともに生きている、ヒマラヤの人々の祈りが込められているのでしょう。
このタルチョーは、ネパールで作られたナイロン製の物になりまして、馬の柄と経文が一枚一枚に刷られています。この風の馬が描かれているものを、特にルンタと呼ぶそうです。
