出雲碧玉は島根県出雲地方（主に花仙山周辺）で産出した国産碧玉で、他地域では同質・同系統の碧玉はほぼ確認されていません。完全に“出雲限定”の石です
出雲碧玉は弥生時代〜古墳時代に勾玉・管玉・祭祀具の材料として使用され、出雲神話や古代祭祀と深く結びついています。特に花仙山産の碧玉は全国の遺跡から出土しており、当時の日本で最重要クラスの霊石でした。
現在、花仙山では採掘が禁止・事実上不可能となっており、新規の原石供給は完全に途絶えています。市場に流通する出雲碧玉は・過去に採掘・加工された在庫・旧家や寺社関係から伝わったものに限られます。
これらは文化財レベルに近い価値を持つこともあり、一般流通ではほとんど見かけません。
