Through the postcard, you can feel the arrival of early summer even in the palm of your hand. Ogata Korin was born between 1658 and 1716 as the second son of one of Kyoto's leading kimono merchants, Gankinya. He first studied in the Kano school, but was influenced by the style of Tawaraya Sotatsu, with whom he became a close friend and created many masterpieces. Korin brought this school to great success, and it later came to be known as the Rimpa school. His representative works include "National Treasure: Red and White Plum Blossoms" and "National Treasure: Inkstone Box with Hachihashi maki-e lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay". #Rimpa is also recommended for inbound visitors. |

尾形光琳(おがた こうりん)
万治元〜享保元年(1658-1716)、京都有数の呉服商・雁金屋の次男として生まれます。はじめは狩野派に学びますが、俵屋宗達の作風に影響を受け、私淑して数多くの名作を制作しました。光琳がこの流派を大成させたことから、のちにこれを「琳派」と呼ぶようになりました。代表作は《国宝 紅白梅図》《国宝 八橋蒔絵螺鈿硯箱》など。
