Ogata Korin was born between 1658 and 1716 as the second son of one of Kyoto's leading kimono merchants, Gankinya. He first studied in the Kano school, but was influenced by the style of Tawaraya Sotatsu, with whom he became a close friend and created many masterpieces. Korin brought this school to great success, and it later came to be known as the Rimpa school. His representative works include "National Treasure: Red and White Plum Blossoms" and "National Treasure: Inkstone Box with Hachihashi maki-e lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay".

#Rimpa is also recommended for inbound visitors.
