Nagasawa Rousetsu (1754-99) was born in Kyoto. He studied painting under Maruyama Okyo and distinguished himself early on with his unique style. He learned from Okyo's precise and compositional sketches, and left behind a wide variety of works with an uninhibited, bold style and eccentric ideas. His representative works include "Yamamba" and "Gunsaru".
