ブルータイガーアイは、角閃石（かくせんせき）と呼ばれる石の中でも、特にクロシドライト（青石綿）という青灰色をした繊維状の鉱物に、石英が染み込んで硬化した石です。このクロシドライト中の鉄分などが酸化して黄色く変化したものをタイガーアイ（虎目石）、変化していない（酸化していない）灰青色のものをホークスアイ（鷹目石）、黄色に変化する途中の灰緑色ものはウルフズアイ（狼目石）と、同じ石でも、その色あいによって違う名前で呼ばれています。石の色彩から連想される動物（瞳）の名前で統一されているところが面白いですね。
