Born in Goto City (formerly Fukue City), Nagasaki Prefecture in 1953, Yamamoto was the first art director for the TV animation "Conan: Future Boy" in 1978, and has since been involved in numerous masterpieces, including "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" (1986), "Grave of the Fireflies" (1988) and "Princess Mononoke" (1997). In recent years, he served as art director for "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" (2006) and directed the TV* special "Miyori no Mori" (2007), and in 2011, the "Exhibition of Fumio Yamamoto, Creator of Japanese Animation Art" was held and is touring throughout Japan.

【著者紹介】山本二三(やまもとにぞう)
1953年長崎県五島市(旧福江市)出身。78年テレビ・アニメーション「未来少年コナン」で初の美術監督を務めて以来、「天空の城ラピュタ」(86年)、「火垂るの墓」(88年)、「もののけ姫」(97年)など、数々の名作に携わる。近年では、2006年に「時をかける少女」の美術監督を務め、07年にはテレビ・スペシャル「ミヨリの森」では監督として映画を制作。11年「日本のアニメーション美術の創造者 山本二三展」が開催され全国各地を巡回中。
