Learning weaving from mother and daughter

First published in 1993, the long-time favorite [Fun of Weaving for Mothers and Children] is now available in a new edition with the addition of an article reporting on a workshop at a workshop [Weaving and Dyeing for Children].
This book explains how to use a tabletop handloom with easy-to-understand illustrations for beginners of weaving.
It also introduces the principles and history of weaving as well as the author's weaving work, allowing readers to learn more about the world of weaving.
The book also includes photographs of Shimura Fukumi's poems and artwork, which is one of the charms of this book.

[Author Biography]
Shimura Fukumi
Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1924. Dyeing artist and essayist.
Major books include Isshiki Issei (Kyuryudo), winner of the 10th Obutsu Jiro Prize, Narrating Flowers (Jinbunshoin), winner of the 41st Japan Essayists* Club Prize, Mother Color, and Shimura no Iro: Shimura Fukumi * Shimura Yoko no Somenori (Kyuryudo), co-authored with Yoko.
Her collections include "Shimura Fukumi Works" (Shikosha), "Ori to Bun" (Weaving and Writing), and "Sequel to Ori to Bun: Bonfire" (Kyuryudo).
In 1990, she was designated as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure), and in 1993, she was selected as a Person of Cultural Merit.
In 2013, he opened a dyeing and weaving school [Ars Shimura] with his daughter Yoko.

Yoko Shimura
Born in Tokyo, Shimura is a dyeing and weaving artist.
She was strongly attracted to the indigo technique and started dyeing and weaving in her 30's. Her teacher is a leading dyeing and weaving expert.
Her teacher was Fukumi Shimura, a leading dyeing and weaving expert, essayist, and mother of a writer.
In 1989, he founded Miyako Kikobo as a place to learn about religion, art, education, and other aspects of culture comprehensively through weaving.
Currently, she continues to work with Shimura at her studio in Saga Arashiyama, Kyoto.
In 2013, she and her mother opened a dyeing and weaving school [Ars Shimura] in Okazaki, Kyoto.
She has published several books and collections of her works, including Shimura no Iro: The Dyeing and Weaving of Shimura Fukumi and Shimura Yoko, and Shimura Yoko: Dyeing and Weaving Design Opera (both published by Kyuryudo).
