Description
| Inu-hariko (dog papier-mâché) is a well-known local toy of Edo period. The "Kago-kaburi Inu" is a dog covered with a basket. The "Kagome" (basket eyes) is said to have the spiritual power to ward off evil spirits, and by covering the dog papier-mâché with this basket, which is used to ward off evil spirits and wish for the growth of the child, it is said to avoid evil or evil spirits that may try to attach themselves to the child. It is also said that the bamboo used for the basket + dog (dog → heaven) = the character for smile, so that the child will smile and grow like a young bamboo. |
