Shijira-ori is a type of shrinking weave. The surface of the cloth becomes uneven and wavy. Shijira-ori is woven with cotton. Two types of warp yarns of different tensile strength, or two types of warp yarns of different thickness, or a plain weave and a weft-ribbed weave are used to weave the fabric in a striped pattern, and the surface of the fabric is then bathed to produce shrinkage and unevenness. [The surface irregularities, called "shibo," make these fabrics pleasant to the touch, lightweight, and cool to the touch. It is used for summer clothes and bedding.
