| This piece uses traditional Japanese building techniques to create a harmony between the simple base material of Oregon pine and the complexity of the design. No nails, screws, or other hardware are used. The construction of the leg and seat joints is not intended merely to ease the eye, but is designed to absorb and utilize weight distribution to provide strength and stability. One of Cassette's key design principles is the responsible use of materials. This allows us to discover and create a unique feel for each piece. Owners of the Plank bench enjoy it in a variety of ways: as a display base, a low table, an objet d'ecuriosité, or a conversation piece. About Cassette We are [Cassette] and we use traditional woodworking techniques to create unparalleled pieces that explore the possibilities of fine wood and exacting craftsmanship. We all work in-house as a small family team, but we also work with local glass, leather, and metal smiths. Our artistic and functional pieces, inhabited by beautiful and playful details, have been recognized abroad and have been exported to several North American and Northern European cities, including New York and Copenhagen. In 2018 we were named [Most Respected in Japanese Furniture and Home Products ] in the Build Residential Top 50 Award in the UK. We hope to export more Cassette items worldwide in the future, but we also seek to maintain a careful and handcrafted approach to manufacturing in limited quantities. |
