「カラベラ祭り」は、メキシコで毎年10月31日〜11月2日にかけて行われる、年に1度の大きなお祭り。「死者の日」とも呼ばれ、日本でいうお盆のようなもの。
日本と違うのは、皆さんとにかく陽気でハッピー♪大好きなご先祖様、こちらに帰ってくる大切な故人をお迎えし喜ばせるために、お墓や祭壇をたくさんの花(マリーゴールドやケイトウ)やキャンドル、カラベラ(骸骨)人形たち、砂糖菓子や故人の好んだもの・お酒などを、色とりどり鮮やかに飾ります。お祭りの間中、街ではパレードや仮装行列が盛大に行われ、とっても賑やか。さすがラテン系♪♪
