夏越の祓（なごしのはらえ）の時、神社の参道に設ける、茅（ちがや）で作った輪。これをくぐれば病気が避けられるといわれています。

金嚢は財宝を入れる袋。財運を招くと云われ、身に着けるとお金が集中し、出ていかなくなるといわれています。

巴紋の由来のひとつに「水が渦を巻いている様を表現したもの」があります。そこから火災除けとして神社などでも巴紋を施す風習がうまれたといわれています。
