歌川国芳（うたがわくによし）
寛政九年(1798)〜文久元年(1861)
幼い頃から絵画を学んだ国芳は、12歳のときに描いた『鍾馗提剣図』が初代歌川豊国の
目に留まり15歳で入門した。その後江戸時代末期を代表する浮世絵師となり
画想の豊かさ、斬新なデザイン力、奇想天外なアイデア、確実なデッサン力を持ち、
浮世絵の枠にとどまらない広範な魅力を持つ作品を多数生み出した。
“武者絵の国芳”と称されるほど、水滸伝の登場人物を描いた作品が評価されるが、
他にも名所絵(風景画)、美人画や役者絵、狂画(戯画)にも多くの力作を残している。
