| Yokoyama Taikan Keio 4 (1868) - Showa 33 (1958) Yokoyama Taikan is a master of modern Japanese painting. He established a unique painting technique called "Fuoborotai," in which shapes, composition, air, and light are expressed by shades of color without using traditional oriental line drawing techniques. He established a unique drawing technique called "Fuoborotai," which expresses form, composition, air, and light by using shades of color. When he first exhibited in Japan, he was heavily criticized. He began to show signs of a deadlock in his activities, so he held exhibitions abroad. This was a complete turnaround, and he continued to receive high acclaim. 色彩の濃淡によって形や構図、空気や光を表す「朦朧体」と呼ばれる
独特な描画手法を確立した。国内で発表した当初は猛烈な批判を浴び
活動に行き詰まりを見せ始めたため、海外で展覧会を開く。
すると一転高い評価を受け続けた。
海外での評価をきっかけに日本国内でもその画風が徐々に評価されていくこととなった。
大観の作品を模倣した作品も多く贋作が非常に多い画家としても知られる。
