Description
Fukui paints modern women in the style of Japanese-style painting with flat color surfaces and blurring, and has been active since the 1980s in advertising posters, books, and other media. While the traditional iwa paints used in Japanese painting are difficult to handle and not suitable for commercial illustrations, Fukui has established an efficient method for painting with acrylics, which are relatively inexpensive and easy to handle. This book explains Fukui's expression techniques using acrylics. Since the hurdle is significantly lower than that of full-fledged Japanese-style painting, this book is recommended not only for those who aim to become professional illustrators, but also for hobbyists who want to casually paint pictures with a Japanese taste. In fact, "Japanese painting" is a genre created to distinguish it from "Western-style painting," which was introduced from the West after the Meiji period (1868-1912), and its history is surprisingly short and its definition is vague. Although art professionals clearly distinguish between "nihonga" paintings created after the Meiji period and traditional paintings such as ukiyoe paintings created before the Meiji period, the general public still perceives both genres as "nihonga" paintings at the same time. In this book, we will touch on this topic and introduce know-how on how to analyze the elements we perceive as "Japanese style" and incorporate them into illustration expression. [Contents] Chapter 1: What is Japanese-style illustration? Chapter 2: The present form of Japanese-style illustration Chapter 3: Painting Japanese-style illustrations with acrylic paints Talk: Shinichi Fukui and Takayuki Ino [Illustration and Japanese expression] |
