アジャラクとは紀元前から続く伝統的な木版更紗です。
インドの北西部グジャラート州の村で、パキスタンにルーツをもつイスラム教の部族によって作られています。アジャラクプリントによく見られる星の模様は、夜空に輝く星を表しているといわれています。作る工程の中で布を寝かせる”ことが最も重要とされおり、色落ちを防ぎ、より味わい深い色を生み出すのに必要な作業とされています。
