Description
| [The Jungle Fatigue, adopted in 1962, has a long history and has undergone four major improvements. At the time, the M42 paratrooper jacket and pants were used as references in its development, with the jacket having four pockets and the pants having six pockets in this style. The distinctive slanted breast pockets were designed to make it easier to take things out when the body is down in battle. The poplin fabric was also lighter and quicker drying than traditional cotton fabrics. The Jungle Fatigue eliminated the exposed buttons and epaulettes originally used, and the poplin fabric was replaced with a ripstop fabric with an anti-tear finish. The jungle fatigues, which were improved and perfected in actual combat, greatly influenced later BDUs, and the four-pocket jacket and six-pocket pants style remained the basic form of combat clothing until the late 1990s.
