RUGA is a very classic leather that began production in Italy in the 1980s. It is made from French raw materials and tanned with vegetable extracts from plants. After the skins are tanned, they are squeezed to create the RUGA (cow's neck) pattern. Dyeing is done by hand, one skin color at a time (called TAMPONATO in Italy). The color is applied by hand, tapping the skin to determine the hue, This is a special process that can only be handled by skilled craftsmen. The leather produced by this technique has a beautiful gradation of colors, even if it is a single color. Finally, the skins are ironed with a special machine to give the item a transparent sheen in a special Italian style.
