This basket with a lid is handmade by Moroccan women.
[The base is made of dried grass called "smal," and woolen yarn is woven into the base. In the past, wool was used as the yarn for weaving, but nowadays acrylic yarn is often used. Originally, they were used to bring bread, the staple food, into the oven or as baskets for storing baked bread, but in recent years they have become popular as interior decorations and are often introduced as a standard Moroccan folk art product.
