Description
| Kimihide Atsumi, Toshikazu Nukyu (eds.) A complete stranger comes to a place where there was no connection at all. No money is exchanged. And yet, they work hard for the affected areas. If anything, they leave with a thank-you note. They are people I don't understand... Disaster volunteer activities have been carried out in Noda Village, Kudo-gun, Iwate Prefecture*, an area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, from immediately after the disaster to the present. The central role was played by "Team Kitarias," a team established in collaboration between outsiders and disaster-stricken residents. While most volunteer activities are one-off efforts and end up with assistance from outsiders, this presentation will introduce the knowledge gained through the collaboration of disaster victims and outsiders as Team Kitarias, as well as the practical methods used to solve problems in the affected areas together with disaster victims, and consider the appeal of disaster volunteerism and the path to recovery. |
