Description
Yutaka Hosoya (Author) How does a Nobel laureate write his dissertation? This book reveals how the young Yukawa, aged 26-32, pursued his overwhelmingly tremendous research while at Osaka Imperial University. In the days of his mission-driven research at the dawn of quantum mechanics, he exchanged opinions with friends by letter, debated with colleagues, talked to citizens, and refuted referees' evaluations. In the afternoon, he plays baseball with his friends and returns home to Nishinomiya at five o'clock, sometimes buying shoes for his son Haru-chan (Haruhiro). Yukawa preserved many historical documents, including letters, drafts, and calculations, and this book includes many of them in full color. The book also includes the abstract of the application documents for the newly discovered degree [on the interaction of elementary particles] at Osaka University, which was compiled by Masashi Kikuchi, the lead researcher of the project. |
