Description
The U.S. Army Medical Department adopted pajamas to be worn in military hospitals in 1936. The pajamas were available in summer and winter, with the summer version being made of gray-beige cotton and the winter version being a gray-blue wool/cotton blend. Due to budget shortages in the U.S. military in the 1930s, there was often a time lag between the adoption of equipment and its production. These pajamas were also in full production at the end of 1941, when the U.S. entered World War II, and were produced until the first half of 1945. The distinctive buttons are generally called "China buttons" but are officially called "Brandenburg buttons," which are decorative buttons influenced by the ribbed military uniforms seen in 18th and 19th century European and American military uniforms. 1941 production had a U.S. MEDICAL DEPERTMENT abbreviation on the collar. The 1941 production had the U.S. MED embroidered on the collar, which is an abbreviation of U.S. MEDICAL DEPERTMENT. Although it was produced for a short period of time, the actual item is very difficult to find both in deadstock and used condition. Our product is based on a sample of dead stock 1942 production without collar embroidery, and the material is cotton linen. *Jacket*. |
