Description
| The naki-rabbit is a small animal that lives only in Hokkaido in Japan, but it was not until the 20th century that it became known as a specific species. They are known for their distinctive chirps and chirps. Although they look like hamsters, they are related to rabbits and are said to be a rare species that is feared to be extinct. They are said to have retained their appearance from the Ice Age, and are sometimes described as "living fossils," but in Hokkaido, they can be seen in relatively familiar mountain gully areas. The author, who lives in Hokkaido, could not forget the sound of the naki-rabbit when he was a boy and visited its habitat many times during his long life, making many sketches. The lively ecology of the naki-rabbit, which is very alert but also very curious, is depicted in delicate color pencil drawings along with the magnificent mountain scenery of Hokkaido, beautiful flowers and grasses, and animals such as the Ezo ground squirrel. |
