Hattan, a Sanchu lacquerware bowl used in Soto Zen temples for serving vegetarian food to ascetic monks (unsui) and priests.

The oryogi is a vessel used by ascetic monks (unsui) at Eiheiji Temple, the head temple of the Soto sect, and other Soto Zen temples throughout Japan to serve vegetarian meals.

The name "oryogi" comes from the fact that the six vessels are used according to the quantity of each dish.

The functionality of oryogi-ware works very rationally with the original Japanese style of eating, which is to have a large variety of food in small portions.

Zen monk three-piece set (刷匙箸 せっかいばashi) consists of three pieces: a spoon, a spatula, and chopsticks.

The brush has a three-pointed hole at the end and is used for washing dishes with a cloth sewn onto it.

*Hachitan is a rug used to enshrine the oryuwares, and functions like a common zen* luncheon mat.

It is made of cardboard coated with astringent persimmon juice or lacquer and measures 8" long * 1" wide. It is usually folded vertically three times, horizontally three times, and conveniently folded into a nine-layered otsuji shape.

When in use, it is unfolded by pulling the upper right and lower left corners, and a bowl or other object is placed on top.

The wood is ground and lacquered to fit the size of a modern hand, while maintaining traditional techniques.

The oryogi is also highly durable and can be used for many years to come.

Whether for a special occasion or for everyday use, the Oryoko is the perfect choice.

Please use it in combination with the weighing instrument.
