男子の桃田選手が世界ランキング(2019年1月現在)1位、
女子の山口選手が同ランキング3位、

女子ダブルスも同ランキングで5位以内に
3組の選手がランクインしている。
日本代表のレベルが向上した理由は、
大きく分けて3つ。
一つ目は、代表強化チームスタッフのレベルが上がったこと。
経験のある指導者が数多く加入することで、
世界水準で考えられるようになった。
二つ目は、ナショナルトレーニングセンター(NTC)が
開設されたこと。
NTCができたことで
国内のトップ選手たちが一ヶ所に集まり、
一緒にトレーニングできる機会が増え、
効率的に高いレベルの練習が行えるようになった。
三つ目は、日本バドミントン協会のアクションプランが示され、
新しい指導者養成制度がはじまったことである。
JOC ゴールドプランの構成を踏まえ、

三位一体で進められることになった。
このことにより、全国どこからでも
優秀な選手が輩出される仕組みができ、
